A stage, but not in the classical sense: the audience sits in a circle around the conductor in the centre. What is that – an orchestra?

Symphony is an interactive theatre play for up to sixty participants. Each member of the audience is equipped with a digital instrument and thus becomes part of the orchestra and, at the same time, of an ensemble of instruments. The orchestra thereby becomes an analogy of society: groups form, it gets noisy. Who is heard and why? Who is given a voice and who is not? Who belongs and who is excluded?

Sixty digital string instruments provide the setting of this play, which exposes power structures and lines of discrimination. And yet, the instruments also create community and strength.
